Labour’s Manifesto promised a new act on election law. A Bill is expected later this year. This seminar will examine some of the challenges parliament will face in updating our electoral laws.

David Howarth is Professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Cambridge and served as an electoral commissioner between 2010 and 2018.
Peter Geoghegan is an investigative journalist, author of Democracy for Sale: Dark Money and Dirty Politics, and The People’s Referendum: Why Scotland Will Never Be the Same Again and will be addressing the implications of claims by Elon Musk that he might donate $100m to Reform, and other forms of overseas influence on UK democracy.
Fiona Scolding KC is a Public & Administrative barrister at Landmark Chambers and will be presenting thoughts on voter registration (including the recent introduction of requirements for ID).
Alex Goodman KC is Joint Head of Public & Administrative Law at Landmark Chambers. Alex has been instructed on a number of judicial reviews and election petitions and has advised on reforms to constitutions abroad. He has taken an interest recently in deepfakes and artificial intelligence.
