High Court confirms that TfL can lawfully use CCTV to issue parking penalties in red route parking bays

Swift J has allowed Transport for London’s claim for judicial review of a decision by Parking Adjudicators that CCTV could not be used to issue parking penalties for unlawful parking in parking bays on red routes. TfL issues around 200,000 penalty notices annually in respect of such cases. The critical issue was whether the definition of red route in the 2022 road traffic contravention regulations includes parking bays. Swift J decided that it does.
