A public
inquiry closes today (21 December) which is considering whether permission
should be granted for an energy recovery facility on the Isle of Portland.
Permission for the ERF is sought on a previously developed site within the Port
area and if permitted is proposed to supply shore power to ships within the
Port and will also be capable of providing heat to nearby prisons. The inquiry
opened on 5 December and has run for 9 days.
The local
planning authority, Dorset Council, refused the application in March 2023 and
the applicant, Powerfuel Portland Ltd, appealed to the Secretary of State. The
Inspector is Mr Paul Griffiths.
David Elvin
KC and Luke Wilcox appear for the Appellant, instructed by Paul Rogers of
tor&co.
Barney McCay
appears for the Rule 6 Parties, Stop Portland Waste Incinerator and The
Portland Association, instructed by Ricardo Gama of Leigh Day Solicitors.
