Following an oral permission hearing in Leeds, the High Court has granted permission for the animal rights charity Animal Equality to bring a judicial review of the grant of planning permission by North East Lincolnshire Council for the first fully commercial-scale onshore salmon farm in the UK.

The Court granted permission on the basis that it was arguable that the Defendant Council’s planning officers misdirected its Planning Committee that animal welfare concerns could not be material planning considerations as a matter of law. The case will now proceed to a final hearing.

Alex Shattock represents the Claimant, Animal Equality, instructed by Edie Bowles at Advocates for Animals.

Andrew Parkinson represents the Defendant, North East Lincolnshire Council.
