Landmark Chambers welcomes three new tenants today (Monday 3 October) as Barney McCay (2019), Harley Ronan (2021), and Rebecca Sage (2021) become members of Chambers.

Rebecca, Barney and Harley have all successfully completed their pupillages with Landmark and will now focus on building practices across property, public law, planning and environmental law.

Before coming to the Bar, Rebecca Sage trained and qualified as a solicitor in the City. She practised in transactional real estate for several years where she worked on lease negotiations, freehold acquisitions, real estate finance matters and the real estate elements of corporate transactions.

Rebecca has also worked as an advisory lawyer in the Government Legal Department where she was the lead lawyer for local and neighbourhood planning and energy performance of buildings at the Ministry for Housing, Communities and Local Government (as it was). Whilst at MHCLG, Rebecca advised on various planning law matters, including the 2018 consultation on the revised National Planning Policy Framework. Immediately prior to commencing pupillage, Rebecca spent 18 months as a law reform lawyer at the Law Commission where she worked on the Commission’s right to manage, enfranchisement and termination of tenancies projects.

Harley Ronan worked in legal research and law reform prior to joining Chambers. This included working as a Research Assistant in Law Commission’s Property, Family and Trusts team, where he worked on reforming the law of commonhold. Harley also has a doctorate in law which explored questions in property law and housing, and has worked as a Research Assistant at the University of Oxford. He has taught property law and equity and trusts to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Barney McCay worked as a political adviser to a Member of Parliament and worked in competition and state aid policy before starting pupillage with Landmark. After converting to law, Barney worked as a Judicial Assistant in the Court of Appeal on cases relating to equality, immigration, employment, education, information, commercial, local government, and EU law.

Landmark Chief Executive Paul Newhall said: “We are delighted that all three of our pupils have chosen to join Landmark as full members. Their expertise has been shown to be of great benefit to our clients and their work has continually attracted the praise of both their supervisors and fellow barristers. We look forward to supporting them as they develop their careers over the coming years.”
