Samantha Broadfoot QC is acting for the AIRE Centre in a three-day hearing before the President of the Family Division, in a case to determine whether a legally recognised man who has given birth to a child should be listed on the birth certificate as mother or father. The individual, who was born female but subsequently legally recognised as male by the Gender Recognition Panel, was told by the Registrar General after giving birth that he must be registered as ‘mother’ on the birth certificate, rather than ‘father’ or ‘parent’. The case has been widely reported in the national press - Daily Telegraph here and here; the Independent; BBC.
